Starting January 1, 2001, the American Kennel Club (AKC) began offering a special recognition for dogs that excelled in multiple events. The Versatile Companion Dog (VCD) title was created to encourage owners to expand their dogs’ abilities in obedience, agility, and tracking. A dog must earn titles in all three events to earn a VCD. There are four different levels of the VCD depending on the dogs' accomplishments in the three events.
A dog must earn Novice level titles in obedience (CD) and agility (NA & NAJ), and earn a Tracking Dog (TD) title to earn a VCD1. A dog must earn Open level titles in obedience (CDX) and agility (OA & OAJ) and earn a Tracking Dog (TD) title to earn a VCD2.

On March 1, 2003 Beauceron history was made. Solder Soliere du Canis Dirus aka Soliere became the very first Beauceron to earn a VCD. Not only did he earn a VCD1, but he earned a VCD2 as well!
