Beauceron Pedigree Database
Frequently Asked Questions
Every effort has been made to present accurate information. If you spot an error, please submit a correction to me. I would like to make this database as accurate as possible.

Before using any information from this database, please read the [DISCLAIMER]

Thanks to everyone who has submitted pedigrees and corrections.

How do I view a pedigree?

To view a pedigree follow these 4 simple steps:
  1. Go to the Pedigree Search Page.
  2. Enter the number of generations you want to display.
  3. Enter the search criteria. This can be the dog's full name, part of a dog's name, or the kennel name.
  4. Click the Search Button.
A list of dogs will be displayed that matched your criteria. To view a pedigree, click on either [PEDIGREE w/ LINKS] or [PEDIGREE w/o LINKS] for the dog you want to view.

What are the different types of Pedigrees I can display?

There are four basic types of pedigrees you can display. The pedigree with links, the pedigree without links, the trial pedigree and the reverse pedigree.

Pedigree With Links

The pedigree with links [PEDIGREE w/ LINKS] displays the pedigree of the dog selected, and each dog's name in the pedigree is in turn a link. If you click on any dog in the pedigree, the pedigree for that dog will be displayed.

Pedigree Without Links

The pedigree without links [PEDIGREE w/o LINKS] displays the pedigree of the dog selected. There are no links displayed on the pedigree, so this is a good choice if you want to print out the pedigree.

Trial Pedigree

A trial pedigree [TRIAL PEDIGREE] is a - What If - pedigree. What would the pedigree look like if you bred a particular male to a particular female? The trial pedigree will show you the results. This is very useful for planning potential breedings.

Reverse Pedigree

The Reverse Pedigree [REVERSE PEDIGREE] will show you all the offspring, the offspring's offspring, etc. of the selected dog. Be careful how many generations you select for this. With some of the popular sires, this display can become quite large.

What other information can I display?

Besides a four different pedigrees, you can also display the breeding information [BREEDING INFO] of a selected dog. This information includes:
  • The Parents
  • Full Siblings
  • Half-siblings on the sire's side
  • Half-siblings on the dam's side
  • Each breeding partner
  • Offspring results of each breeding
Parent, Offspring, and Sibling information is limited to dogs entered in the database, and where the sire/dam information is known so that relationships can be determined. Only one breeding will be listed per breeding partner. If there was a repeat breeding, it will be listed as one breeding, but all the offspring entered in the database from both litters will be listed.

How do I display breeding information?

To view breeding information, follow these 3 simple steps:
  1. Go to the Pedigree Search Page.
  2. Enter the search criteria for a dog.
  3. Click the Search Button.
A list of dogs will be displayed that matched your criteria. To view breeding information, click on [BREEDING INFO] for the dog you want to display.

How do I find my dog's siblings and half siblings?

Select Breeding Info [BREEDING INFO] for the selected dog. Even if the dog has never been bred, it will still display information on the siblings and half siblings for that dog. Sibling information is limited to dogs entered in the database, and where the sire/dam information is known so that relationships can be determined.

What should I do if I find an error?

If you find an error in the database, please let me know. You can email me at admin@aboutbeaucerons.com, or you can use the online form to submit a correction.

How do I submit a dog?

If you have a Beauceron you would like included in the database, you can submit information in one of two ways: The information will then be included in the next update of the database.

Why doesn't the dog I submitted show up right away?

The database is not automatically updated once you submit the form. I have to manually update the database then upload it to the website before you will see the change.

How often do you update the database?

I try to update the database at least once a month. Sometimes I update it two or three times a month.

My dog's name is followed by numbers or words in parenthesis. What is this?

When a dog does not have a kennel name, the dog's name will usually be followed by either (registration number), (year of birth), or (owner's name). This helps to separate multiple dogs with the same name.

Where did you get all the information in the database?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the information contained within the Beauceron Pedigree Database is proprietary or confidential. This information exists in the public domain. I'm just making it available in a different way. Here are my sources for the information in the Beauceron Pedigree Database.
  • Le Bas Rouge - The quarterly magazine of Club des Amis du Beauceron. This has been my primary source of information on all the French dogs. Unfortunately, as anyone who has read Le Bas Rouge knows, the information is not always correct. I have found a lot of contradictory information. If the information is wrong in Le Bas Rouge, it is probably also wrong in the Beauceron Database.
